Tremblay-en-France

Ian Ritchie Architects with Kathryn Gustafson were selected to compete alongside with 3 other international architects, in an ideas competition launched jointly by L’Agence Foncière et Technique de la Région Parisienne (AFTPR) and the town of Tremblay-en-France.

We were required to submit a development strategy for the new ‘International District’ to be situated between Roissy Airport and Tremblay-en-France, in conjunction with a strategy to protect the existing village.

The development site area covers 1000 hectares, adjacent to Roissy Airport, Paris Nord 2 Business Park and the Paris International Exhibition Halls at Villepinte. All of these existing facilities are expected to expand.

The development of this very large area includes two new stations of the new RER loop, linking Roissy Airport and its TGV station (designed by RFR) with Marne-la-Vallee and Cergy-Pontoise and part of the Francilienne (equivalent to the M25).
The theme of the development strategy is ‘The Tree of Communication’.

The principal components of the development strategy are:
–    The Biological Park (Agricentrum) which links the development nodes
–    The Cité  Internationale of Tremblay-en-France
–    The Tremblay forest

The three elements are linked by a system of groundwater collection and distribution taking the form of canals and reservoirs.
The idea of recovering agricultural land for managed arboriculture is central to the proposal.
