Gold : Dust

This book, published by ritchie*studio in December 2024, presents more than eighty letters from around the world supporting Sir Peter Cook’s 2023/2024 nomination that Ian Ritchie is worthy of receiving the RIBA Gold Medal given by the RIBA on behalf of the British monarch, King Charles III.

These letters from architects, engineers, academics, clients, lawyers, industry and the media are coupled with appropriate illustrations of the work designed and completed by his practices.

Throughout, the words inspirational, innovative, poetic, collaborative, generous and elegant are evoked regularly to describe his and his practices’ approach and work.

Architects of supporting letters include Richard England, Lord Norman Foster, Kengo Kuma, Volkwin Marg, Graham Morrison, Renzo Piano, Alan Stanton, Kjetil Thorsen and Kim Wilkie, and eight past presidents of national institutes of architects.

Paul Finch OBE, Founder Director of the World Architecture Festival:
Ian is a rarity in the profession of architecture because of his combination of technical brilliance, intellectual perspective and poetic sensibility.”

Marcus Binney, Founder of SAVE Britain’s Heritage:
“Ian combines his artistic talent with a gifted feel for engineering in the traditions of Paxton and Brunel.”

Kathryn Gustafson, Founder of Gustafson Porter & Bowman:
“This may be the best description of Ian Ritchie, the architects’ Architect.”
